FG Addresses Protesters’ Demands as Abbas Calls for Peace

Encouraging Nigerians participating in ongoing nationwide protests to temporarily suspend their activities, Tajuddeen Abbass, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, highlighted that senior government officials are actively engaging in dialogue to address the country’s pressing issues.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Kirishi, Abbas conveyed that following a town hall meeting with the youth on Wednesday, he promptly conveyed their grievances to President Bola Tinubu.

During an interview with the BBC Hausa Service amidst the ongoing protests, especially by the youthful demographic since Thursday, Abbas detailed the House’s interactions with leaders and representatives of various youth organizations at the National Assembly, where productive discussions were held with over 25 groups.

Having relayed the concerns and requests of the youth to President Tinubu, Abbas expressed optimism for imminent resolutions to the issues raised.

“We are consistently updating the President on our discussions with the youths. He has expressed satisfaction with our deliberations and pledged to address the grievances progressively,” stated the Speaker.

Emphasizing the citizen’s right to peaceful demonstrations, Abbas cautioned against allowing protests to escalate into activities detrimental to the nation, citing historical instances of exploitation by nefarious elements even in developed countries.

Accompanied by ministers from pivotal sectors, Abbas underscored the administration’s robust efforts to combat insecurity, inflation, and unemployment, ensuring imminent positive transformations for Nigerians.
