Festus Keyamo Orders Suspension of 800% Planned Navigation Charges for Airlines

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has given the green light for the suspension of the intended 800 percent increase in navigational charges by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA.

In a statement released on Monday, Abdullahi Musa, the agency’s spokesperson, revealed this development.

The suspension was granted in light of what Minister Keyamo referred to as the “current economic challenges faced by Nigerians,” as explained by Musa.

Keyamo emphasized the necessity for additional consultations before any changes are put into effect.

Previously, it was noted by NewsNow that Umar Farouk, the head of NAMA, attributed the proposed increment to the substantial economic pressures experienced by the aviation sector, made worse by global economic uncertainties, fuel price surges, and currency fluctuations.

He had suggested an 800 percent raise in NAMA’s fees starting from September 1, 2024.
