In the aftermath of the tragic sword attack that claimed the life of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin in London on Tuesday, the Federal Government has extended its heartfelt condolences to his family.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, described it as “unfortunate, sad, and gruesome.”
In a statement released by the spokesperson of NiDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa offered her sympathies to the bereaved family and the Nigerian communities in the UK, praying for the repose of young Daniel’s soul whose life was tragically cut short.
She expressed confidence that decisive measures would be taken to ensure that the perpetrator, now in police custody, faces appropriate consequences, as per the statement.
Daniel Anjorin was a student at Bancroft’s private school in Woodford Green.
The accused, Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, appeared in court to answer charges in connection to Anjorin’s tragic death.
Monzo faces a litany of charges, which include two counts of attempted murder, two counts of grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article.
During the incident on Tuesday, four individuals, including two Metropolitan Police officers, sustained injuries.
Aged 36, Monzo made his appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded in custody earlier in the day.
He is slated to remain in custody until his appearance at the Old Bailey, which is scheduled for Tuesday unless an earlier date is set for Friday.
