FCMB Addresses the Collapse of a Customer at its Onipan Branch and Denies COVID-19 Claims

First City Monument Bank (FCMB), a leading Nigerian financial institution, has released an official statement addressing the video depicting a customer collapsing at its Onipan branch in Lagos State.

The bank clarified the incident as follows:

• At approximately 11 am on Monday, May 04, 2020, a middle-aged man visited the branch to conduct a transaction at the ATM. As part of the COVID-19 health and safety measures, his temperature was checked and found to be normal. Additionally, hand sanitizer was available for use beside the machine.

• While waiting in line, the customer began to display signs of fatigue and ultimately collapsed. The branch support personnel, fully masked and gloved, promptly assisted him and moved him to the branch security post.

• Upon inquiry, the customer revealed that he had not eaten anything and had been waiting in line for a short period. After resting and consuming some snacks, he recovered and left the branch on his own.

• There was no indication of respiratory distress, breathing difficulty, or high temperature exhibited by the customer, contrary to what has been incorrectly reported on social media.

The bank acknowledged the potential panic caused by a short video without proper context during the current COVID-19 outbreak but stressed the importance of verifying information before spreading it. FCMB highlighted its commitment to implementing robust health and safety measures at all open branches and emphasized the need for united efforts to combat and eradicate the pandemic.

FCMB remains resolute in its dedication to protecting its customers, employees, and communities. To learn more about FCMB, please visit www.fcmb.com
