‘Fayose Disputes August 1 Movement, Claims No Protest Against Buhari’

Expressing his disapproval, Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, criticized the upcoming protest scheduled for August 1 against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Fayose argued that since there were no protests against the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, the motives behind the planned August 1 demonstration seem suspicious.

During an appearance on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today program, he remarked that the issue of hunger has been prevalent for a long time and was not triggered suddenly.

“The hunger crisis has been ongoing; that’s why there was a rally at one point demanding ‘Jonathan must go.’ President Goodluck Jonathan eventually left office,” Fayose recalled.

He continued, “Despite the persisting hunger, there were no protests during Buhari’s eight-year tenure. The absence of rallies during his administration is noteworthy.”

Highlighting the challenges of governance in Nigeria, Fayose emphasized the complexity of governing the country and suggested that administrations be given a midterm evaluation.

“No government is flawless. Governing Nigeria is a daunting task. Therefore, it may be premature to demand the government’s downfall when we should offer constructive feedback instead,” he stated.
