Authorities have apprehended Muyiwa Otuyalo, a 60-year-old fish farmer, for attempting to smuggle a substance suspected to be a hard drug to his son, Damilola Otuyalo, who is currently detained at the EFCC in its Ibadan zonal office.

The senior Otuyalo was at the EFCC office on Monday, February 17th, ostensibly to visit his son. However, while in conversation with his son, an officer observed him producing a sachet of tablets and passing it to his detained son.

The substance was confiscated, and upon examination by an in-house nurse, it was revealed to be Rohypnol, a tranquilizer typically used under strict prescription for the treatment of severe insomnia and assistance in anesthesia. It possesses a high sedative effect and is rarely used except when prescribed by licensed medical professionals.

The younger Otuyalo was recently arrested after a money laundering case was uncovered in the United Kingdom and reported against him. The case, involving £45,000, is part of a larger investigation of about £500,000 for which he is wanted by the London’s Metropolitan Police.

He had been on the wanted list of the International Police, Interpol, prior to the petition filed at the EFCC, Ibadan zonal office.
