Fake Amotekun officers nabbed in Ogun (see photos)

Thirteen individuals pretending to be members of the yet-to-be established Amotekun Corps in Ogun State were apprehended by So-Safe Corps, a security outfit of the Ogun State Government.

 

The suspects, who were stationed at a checkpoint in Lafenwa area of Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, were seen wearing reflective jackets with Amotekun insignias and allegedly extorting money from the public.

The suspects, accused of patrolling Ota with two vehicles and three motorbikes, purportedly claimed to have the support of the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), the organization responsible for the inauguration of the Amotekun Corps. They have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Director of Information and Public Relations for So-Safe, ACC Moruf Yusuf, stated,

 

“So-Safe Corps, an Ogun State-owned security agency, has achieved another significant feat. Our officers in the Ado–Odo Ota Division, while enforcing the COVID-19 Stay-at-home directives of the Federal/State Governments at approximately 16:16hrs, discovered a group of individuals posing as a legitimate security outfit.

“The culprits, thirteen in number, were apprehended, claiming to be officers of Amotekun, Ogun State Command.

“During preliminary investigation, the suspected fake officers claimed that their operation had a solid backing of the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission.

“The suspects, equipped with reflective jackets bearing Amotekun inscriptions, and using two vehicles and three motorbikes, were caught at a checkpoint in Lafenwa, Itele Ota, located at Ado Odo Ota Local Government, extorting the public.

“The suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Police, Itele Division, for further investigation and possible prosecution.”
