FAAN Takes Action Against KFC Outlet at MMIA for Discrimination Towards Customer

In response to discriminatory treatment towards a Passenger with Reduced Mobility, the Federal Airport Authority in Nigeria (FAAN) has closed down the KFC outlet at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

A statement released by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, confirmed the shutdown on Thursday.

The incident came to light when Dabola Daniel shared his experience of discrimination at the KFC outlet in MMIA Lagos due to his disability on his official X account.

Following an investigation, FAAN decided to take action by closing down the outlet.

FAAN has mandated KFC to issue an apology to the affected Passenger with Reduced Mobility.

“In compliance with the Lagos State law on People with Special Needs, FAAN has closed the KFC facility at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos effective March 28, 2024, based on section 55 of the General Provisions on Discrimination,” the statement read.

The closure was a response to a social media report by a Passenger with Reduced Mobility alleging discriminatory practices at the airport.

FAAN’s MD/CE, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, promptly deployed a team led by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Mr. Sunday Ayodele, Mrs. Ijeoma Nwosu-Igbo, and Mr. Kerri to investigate the matter.

As a result of the team’s findings, FAAN took the decision to close down the KFC facility at MMIA.

The authority has directed KFC management to issue a written apology to the affected individual and display a non-discrimination policy statement visibly at the facility before resuming operations.
