FAAN closes Port Harcourt airport over fire incident

The Port Harcourt International Airport runway has been closed temporarily by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) following a recent bush fire incident near the facility. The closure reportedly led to the suspension of flights landing and taking off from the airport on Saturday, January 4.

Emphasizing its commitment to the safety, security, and comfort of passengers and airport users, FAAN’s Corporate Affairs General Manager, Henrietta Yakubu, stated that the temporary closure of the runway was implemented as part of safety precautions. She further mentioned that a joint team from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency is currently assessing the situation to clear the airside of smoke and restore normalcy at the airport.
