FA Charges Manchester United for Surrounding Referee in Liverpool Clash

Manchester United is facing a charge from the Football Association for not conducting themselves in an orderly fashion during their recent 2 – 0 Premier League defeat to Liverpool. This incident unfolded after a challenge by Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk on goalkeeper David De Gea, leading to Roberto Firmino’s goal, which was later disallowed, and a free-kick was awarded to Manchester United.

Prior to the goal being disallowed, around seven United players were observed surrounding referee Craig Pawson to challenge his decision not to disallow the goal initially.

The FA released a statement, accusing Manchester United of breaching FA Rule E20(a) by failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 26th minute of the Premier League fixture against Liverpool. The statement read: “It is alleged that the club failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 26th minute of the Premier League fixture against Liverpool FC on Sunday (19/1/20).”

In response to the charge, Manchester United’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated: “Maybe I shouldn’t talk too much about that. Let’s get that decision done. The goal – it’s overturned. I reacted myself because everybody could see it was a foul.”

The club has until Thursday to provide a response to the charge.
