Explosion at Rivers APP Secretariat Confirmed by Police, Bomb Squad Dispatched

Confirmation has been made by the Rivers State Police Command regarding an explosion that occurred at the secretariat of the Action People’s Party in Port Harcourt on Monday morning. The police have deployed their bomb disposal squad to the scene for evaluation of the situation, assessment of the extent of damage, and identification of the source of the explosive material.

Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command’s spokesperson, verified the incident during a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Monday. According to a report by The Punch, an explosion, believed to have been caused by dynamite, rocked the APP secretariat situated on Tombia Road in GRA, Port Harcourt, around 1 am on Monday, resulting in destruction to doors, windows, and other party property.

The occurrence of this incident coincides with rumors circulating that the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, might be considering a move with his supporters to the APP due to the alleged takeover of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state by his predecessor and former political mentor, Nyesom Wike.

Sunny Wokekoro, the State Chairman of the APP, also acknowledged the explosion, mentioning, “I have just arrived at the scene. I am currently assessing the damage and will later hold a press conference to address the situation.”

Furthermore, Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, revealed that an investigation into the incident has been initiated by the command to determine the cause, identify the perpetrators, and ensure they are brought to justice.

She stated, “Yes, the command confirms the occurrence of the incident early this morning. Our bomb disposal unit has been sent to the party office to conduct a thorough assessment, and an investigation is already underway.”
