''Experiencing the Burning Sensation of Coronavirus’ – A Survivor’s Account

Sharing her battle with coronavirus, a woman vividly explains the agony of fighting the fatal virus that has raged worldwide, claiming numerous lives.

Mandy Charlton, a 46-year-old mother of three and a photographer, was admitted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with a high fever, describing the sensation as if she had ‘swallowed glass’ and her entire body was engulfed in flames.

Amid her recovery, Mandy mentions sleeping for 20 hours daily and resorting to paracetamol to ease her symptoms. She narrates waking up feeling drenched and exhausted.

Mandy, hailing from Newcastle, recounted to Metro UK, “My temperature spiked to 39 degrees. I developed a painful, dry cough. It felt like my body was ablaze, waking up drenched and miserable. I have had flu before, but this was on another level. When the hospital discharged me to self-isolate, I panicked about getting home.”

She attributes her contraction of the virus to one of her daughters. After testing positive, she spent a night in the hospital and was then released to complete her isolation at home.

Reflecting on her hospital experience, Mandy expressed concern for the staff’s safety, stating, “The porters were not provided with masks. I inquired with one, and he disclosed that they had been instructed not to wear any protection. The paramedics had to borrow masks and aprons since supplies ran out.”
