Exciting Development: Three-in-One ID Cards Coming to Nigeria by August

An innovative three-in-one identity card is set to be introduced to Nigerians starting August, as announced by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Combining identity, financial, and social service functions into a single multipurpose card, this new initiative aims to streamline services for citizens.

The rollout of the card will reach all Nigerian citizens nationwide within the next two months.

During an exclusive interview with Saturday Punch, a key member of the implementation team, who chose to remain anonymous, shared details on the project’s progress.

Expressing optimism about meeting their targets, the official confirmed that the commission is on track for a successful launch in the coming months.

Testing and deployment activities for the new three-in-one card have already commenced, marking a significant step towards its official launch.

Regarding the timeline for the rollout, the official mentioned, “While our initial plan aimed for July, minor delays have occurred. Nevertheless, we are striving to achieve our goal between July and August. Any updates on the timeline will be communicated to the public.”

Elaborating on the technical aspects of the deployment, the official highlighted the complexities involved in configuring the card, activating its features, and conducting necessary tests.

Furthermore, the integration work with various banks to enable the card’s functionality is progressing steadily alongside the overall deployment efforts.

On April 5, 2024, NIMC officially announced the launch of the new multi-functional card, developed in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System, showcasing enhanced payment capabilities and social service features.
