Euro 2024: England would’ve won with him – Joey Barton hails departing Man United star

Former England star, Joey Barton, has said that his country could have won the Euro 2024 championship with Mason Greenwood in the team.

Greenwood is set to leave Manchester United for Ligue 1 side, Marseille.

He will be leaving the club permanently after spending last season on loan at La Liga outfit Getafe.

Greenwood is set to undergo a medical ahead of a €30 million move to the French Ligue1 outfit, where he’ll sign a five-year contract.

Barton, who spent several years playing for Marseille, has hailed the move.

Greenwood, 22, was acquitted after key witnesses withdrew from the case of sexual harassment he was accused of.

Barton wrote on X, “That is a great signing. The kid deserves a chance to get on with his career.

“We all make mistakes. Nobody’s perfect. England would have won the Euro’s with this kid in the side.”

“He’s a good player. As any in that Euro’s squad. His behaviour and the public fallout has massively affected his performance, yet he went to an average team in Spain. (And got himself back on track).”
