Equatorial Guinea Holds Super Eagles to a 1-1 Draw

In their opening match of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Super Eagles of Nigeria faced a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

The first goal came from Equatorial Guinea in the 37th minute when Iban Salvador scored a well-placed shot that left the Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, motionless.

Nigeria quickly responded with an equalizing goal from Victor Osimhen just before the halftime whistle.

Despite numerous opportunities, Nigeria was unable to secure the winning goal. Though Osimhen scored his first AFCON goal in his debut appearance, he missed a crucial chance in the 75th minute.

In Group A, Nigeria will face Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau in the remaining matches of the tournament.
