EPL: Inside Guardiola’s Clash with Raheem Sterling

During his time at Manchester City in 2021, Pep Guardiola had a confrontation with Raheem Sterling.

Author Marti Perarnau, a close associate of Guardiola, revealed this incident in his latest book titled ‘The Pep Revolution’.

Perarnau mentioned that the clash took place in March 2021 in Guardiola’s office, leading to Sterling storming out of the discussion.

As a consequence, Guardiola decided to exclude Sterling from City’s squad for a match against Fulham.

The disagreement began when Sterling was left on the bench for a 5-2 victory against Southampton. The English player took offense to Guardiola’s decision and started to show signs of rebellion.

Perarnau also suggested that Sterling’s frustration stemmed from Guardiola’s continuous praise for Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, who were performing exceptionally well for the club.

Both Guardiola and Sterling will have a chance to face each other once again on Sunday, August 18 at Stamford Bridge as they aim to secure their first points of the season.
