EPL: Chelsea open investigation in Enzo Fernandez’s racist video

Chelsea have “instigated an internal disciplinary procedure” into a video posted on social media by Enzo Fernandez.

The French Football Federation alleged that the clip is racist.

Fernandez and some of his Argentina team-mates could be seen in the video, chanting a derogatory song about the France team.

The incident happened shortly after Albiceleste defeated Colombia in the final of the 2024 Copa America.

Fernandez’s team-mate at Chelsea, Wesley Fofana, reposted the video on X and captioned it: “Football in 2024: uninhibited racism”.

Fernandez later posted an apology on Instagram.

On Wednesday morning Chelsea said in a statement: “Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour completely unacceptable. We are proud to be a diverse, inclusive club where people from all cultures, communities and identities feel welcome.

“We acknowledge and appreciate our player’s public apology and will use this as an opportunity to educate.

“The club has instigated an internal disciplinary procedure.”
