Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, celebrates Rangers’ NPFL Victory and Promises Sports Sector Revival

Following Rangers International Football Club of Enugu’s triumphant win of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, commended the team on their outstanding performance. The victory was secured with a 2-0 triumph over Bendel Insurance Football Club at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday.

The goals from Kenechukwu Agu in the 33rd minute and Chidiebere Nwobodo in the 65th minute sealed the eighth league title for the team, marking their second victory since 2016. With their closest rivals, Remo Stars and Enyimba Football Club, both losing their match-day 37 fixtures, Rangers had an unassailable 67-point lead with one game remaining.

Governor Mbah praised the team’s win as a testament to the greatness of Enugu State and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing more resources in sports development in the region.

“The performance we witnessed today mirrors the greatness that Enugu embodies. Our state has a rich legacy, and the players have upheld that tradition of excellence. This victory signifies a significant step towards our goal of becoming a leading force in sports,” expressed Governor Mbah.

He emphasized the importance of meticulous planning and hard work in achieving success, stating, “Success is not a matter of luck but of dedication and perseverance. The players exhibited exceptional teamwork and determination, reminiscent of world-class tournaments.”

Looking ahead, Governor Mbah outlined plans for enhancing sports infrastructure, stating, “Our aim is to revolutionize the sports industry in Enugu State by developing state-of-the-art facilities and modernizing existing ones to global standards.”

Moreover, the Governor presented the Club Player of the Match award to Chidiebere Nwobodo from Rangers International Football Club.
