Enugu Rangers clinch their eighth NPFL championship

Emerging victorious in the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League, Enugu Rangers secured their eighth league title with one match to go, triumphing over Bendel Insurance 2-0 in their final home fixture of the season at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.

The Flying Antelopes reclaimed the title for the first time since 2016, as their competitors Remo Stars and Enyimba suffered defeats in other match-day 37 games against Sunshine Stars and Sporting Lagos respectively.

While Remo Stars were bested 2-1 by Sunshine Stars in Akure, Enyimba also fell 2-1 to relegation-threatened Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

Heading into the 37th match-day with a two-point advantage, Fidelis Ilechukwu’s squad seized control against Insurance swiftly, with Kenechukwu Agu netting the opener in the 33rd minute.

Chidiebere Nwobodo extended their lead in the 65th minute, but the confirmation of their triumph was nearly delayed to the final day as Remo and Enyimba, who were trailing by a goal each, managed to equalize.

A draw for Remo could have kept them in contention for the title, but their aspirations were shattered by two late goals.
