Enugu Police Issues Warning Ahead of Nationwide Protest, Fears Hijacking and Violence

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has raised concerns over potential violence and disruption of public peace in the upcoming nationwide protest.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, it was emphasized that the warning was necessary to safeguard lives, properties, and critical national assets.

The statement highlighted the intelligence received regarding the sinister intentions of criminal elements to infiltrate and hijack the planned protest, posing a threat to law-abiding citizens and properties in the State.

Referencing past experiences during the EndSARS protests, where hoodlums engaged in destructive activities, the Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the police and other security forces to counter such criminal actions effectively.

While acknowledging the citizens’ constitutional rights to assemble and express grievances peacefully, the CP stressed the importance of preventing the protests from turning violent, particularly in the current challenging circumstances.

Individuals planning to partake in the protest were urged to reconsider their intentions in light of the provided intelligence and explore alternative peaceful avenues to address their concerns.

The Commissioner underscored the requirement for adherence to existing laws, specifically the Public Order Act, for any planned gatherings or demonstrations in the State.

Residents of Enugu State were advised to maintain lawfulness, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station promptly.
