Enhancing Bilateral Relations Between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia in Trade and Agriculture

In a recent meeting in Abuja, the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a focus on agriculture, trade, and economic opportunities.

The Saudi delegation, led by Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Abdulrahman Alfadley, engaged in discussions with Nigerian officials, including Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Prof. Joseph Utsev, and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Sen. Abubakar Bagudu.

Also present at the meeting was Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara, who chairs the Nigeria Governors Forum.

The meeting aimed to strategically leverage opportunities following talks between President Bola Tinubu and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

Utsev emphasized the significance of water for irrigated agriculture, expressing Nigeria’s readiness to support initiatives that enhance food production and possibly benefit the sanitation and hygiene sector.

Abdulrazaq affirmed the willingness of Nigerian governors to allocate land for agricultural purposes, underscoring the potential for both domestic consumption and exports.

Bagudu underscored how the partnership would advance economic development and job creation in both countries.

Alfadley echoed the dedication to strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in areas of comparative advantage like agriculture, investment, and job creation.
