Encouraging Fair Pricing in Markets: Ogun State’s Initiative

In an effort to promote fair pricing of goods and services in markets, the Ogun State Government, under the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has initiated a sensitisation campaign.

Addressing the economic challenges, the government emphasizes that traders should not take advantage of the situation by inflating prices, but rather adopt fair and reasonable pricing strategies to foster a balanced market environment.

During a visit to markets in Ogun Central and West Senatorial Districts, including Siun and Kuto, the Commissioner of the Ministry, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, stressed the importance of fair pricing practices.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to the welfare of citizens, Adeleye mentioned that the aim of the campaign was to foster mutual understanding among stakeholders, prevent consumer exploitation, and alleviate financial burdens on low-income families.

She further explained, “Through initiatives like Oko’Owo Dapo, the government has been empowering women and supporting businesses with soft loans and grants.”

Ensuring a fair and equitable market operation that benefits both traders and consumers is the primary objective.

The Commissioner expressed optimism for a collaborative effort between the government and market stakeholders, emphasizing the significance of cooperation to drive economic growth, safeguard consumer rights, and promote healthy competition.

In response, Iyaloja of Egba Market, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Oloyede, applauded the government’s initiatives supporting agriculture and transportation, pledging to encourage fair pricing among market women to alleviate the public’s hardships.
