Encouragement for Youth to Lead Tree Planting for Environmental Conservation

Urging the youth to actively engage in tree planting initiatives, the Jigawa State Government emphasizes the importance of environmental preservation.

Dr. Nura Ibrahim, from the Ministry of Environment, conveyed this message during the launch of a tree planting campaign in Suletankarkar Local Government. The initiative, supported by UNICEF, coincided with World Youth International Day.

The goal set by the Jigawa State Government is to plant 1,500 trees in semi-arid regions of northern Jigawa, covering Babura, Suletankarkar, and Maigatari local governments, in a bid to combat the impacts of deforestation.

This call to action is part of the broader strategy to address environmental degradation and advance sustainable development within the state.

In his address, the commissioner cautioned against tree felling, identifying it as a primary contributor to environmental decline.

Highlighting the significant role of the youth in environmental conservation, Dr. Uba Lawal, the Programme Specialist for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) at UNICEF Field Office Kano, emphasized their leadership potential.

He stressed, “Youth are the future leaders, and witnessing their proactive stance towards shaping tomorrow is truly inspiring. Your vigor, innovation, and dedication can steer positive transformations.”
