Emphasizing Peace in Osun PDP Ahead of Primary Election

Encouraging a peaceful approach and setting high standards, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has urged its members to maintain peace.

In a statement personally signed by the Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, and obtained by NewsNow on Friday, the call to uphold peace comes ahead of the party’s primary election for candidates vying for elective councillor positions at the local government level on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

The primary election is scheduled to take place across the 332 wards in the state. Additionally, the chairmanship primary election of the party will be conducted on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the 30 local government headquarters in Osun State.

Notably, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has fixed Saturday, February 22, 2025, as the date for the local government elections in the state. The primary elections aim to determine the chairmanship and councilorship candidates for the constitutionally recognized 30 local government council areas.

Bisi, in his statement, called on aspirants and their supporters to collaborate with the electoral officers and security operatives overseeing the primaries. He sternly warned that any acts of violence during or after the exercise will not be tolerated by the State Working Committee of the party.

His statement emphasized, “Supporters of all prospective candidates are urged to adhere to the law and party guidelines during the primaries. Violence has no place in our PDP family or in such a critical constitutional process.”

He further added, “The leadership has taken necessary steps to ensure a smooth exercise in line with the directives of our leader, His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, as discussed in the last stakeholders meeting.” Bisi expressed confidence that the primaries would yield top-notch candidates for the upcoming local government elections, ensuring victory for the party.

Concluding the statement, he highlighted the party’s adherence to the rule of law, stating, “Aspirants must follow the party guidelines, electoral laws, and the country’s constitution during the primaries. Any misconduct will lead to disqualification, as fairness and compliance with the law are non-negotiable.”
