Emergency NEC meeting called by NLC in response to headquarters invasion

Amid the invasion of its headquarters on Wednesday night, the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC have called for an emergency National Executive Council, NEC, meeting to be held on Saturday.

Joining the numerous organizations and individuals denouncing the invasion, the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria, LAWAN, has expressed its concerns as well.

On Wednesday night, heavily armed policemen and individuals in civilian clothing reportedly invaded the NLC Headquarters, also known as Labour House, in Abuja.

The security personnel, filled with fear, allegedly entered the Labour House shortly before 9 pm and conducted searches on both the Second and 10th floors.

According to NLC, “They forcefully entered the second floor, searched through offices, which included a bookshop, and took away various materials such as books, claiming these materials were being used to instigate and coordinate recent protests.”

The NEC meeting, which will be held virtually, is set for 4 pm to allow Labour leaders to assess the situation and determine the appropriate course of action in response to the invasion and its associated issues.
