Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced the resumption of car production at its U.S. assembly factory in Fremont, California on Monday, despite Alameda County’s stay-at-home order to combat the spread of COVID-19.
In a tweet on Monday, Musk declared, “Tesla is restarting production today against Alameda County rules. I will be on the line with everyone else. If anyone is arrested, I ask that it only be me.”

Musk has criticized the county’s stringent closure of non-essential businesses, including Tesla’s Fremont factory, arguing that the measures are overly aggressive and unconstitutional.
On Saturday, the company filed a federal lawsuit against the county, seeking injunctive relief to invalidate the orders that have hindered the automaker from reopening.
Later, Tesla released a 37-page back-to-work plan outlining the safety measures to restart production and prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 among employees.
