Efforts of Kano Anti-Corruption Agency to Track Marketers Responsible for Artificial Price Hikes

In the state of Kano, the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCAC) has identified certain marketers believed to be behind the significant increase in the cost of flour.

Following a meeting with the Singer Provision and Essential Commodities Market last Friday, the Chairman of the Commission, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, revealed that they have managed to secure 7 Court orders to prosecute those responsible for the artificial escalation of flour prices.

Rimin Gado stated, “We have pinpointed seven shops and dealers who are contributing to the soaring prices of flour and noodles in the state, with one major dealer on the run as a wanted individual.”

He further mentioned, “Governor Yusuf has directed our office to take immediate action to address the negative impact caused by the artificial price hikes, especially concerning flour and spaghetti in the state.”

“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has engaged with the Singer Marketers Association to investigate the root causes of this issue, along with a meeting with the Baker’s association. They have collectively acknowledged that the rise in flour prices is due to the actions of certain unpatriotic marketers,” he added.

He reassured, “Following our discussions with both the Baker’s and Singer Marketers Associations today, a mutual agreement has been reached whereby the Singer People will directly supply Flour to the Baker’s, eliminating the involvement of retail intermediaries who exploit the situation to inflate prices.”

Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado specified that seven shops have already been shut down and a dealer is currently evading authorities after failing to respond to allegations against him.

“However, I want to make it clear that regardless of his attempts to evade justice, we will apprehend him and hold him accountable for his misconduct and detrimental actions impacting the lives of millions of people.”
