EFCC’s X Account Unaffected by Alleged Hacking Incident

Denying claims of a hacking incident, the Economic and Financial Crimes Crime Commission has refuted reports suggesting its X account (formerly Twitter) had been compromised.

Rumors had surfaced alleging that cybercriminals, who had threatened to engage in a digital conflict against the EFCC, had successfully hacked into the anti-corruption agency’s X account.

It was reported that certain individuals involved in online fraudulent activities had accused the agency of overlooking legal standards while cracking down on suspicious behaviors exhibited by Nigerians on the internet.

A check conducted on Thursday morning revealed that the account was temporarily unavailable.

Despite this, the agency’s official website and its various active social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram were fully operational.

During an interview with one of our correspondents on Thursday, the spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, explained that the temporary disruption was due to a recent update carried out on the agency’s account.

He reassured the public that the X account would soon be accessible to all users.

Oyewale stated, “We are currently conducting updates on the account. Contrary to speculations, it was not hacked. Normal account functionality will be restored shortly.”
