EFCC denies its chairman said ‘coronavirus is caused by corruption’, but video evidence proves he did (watch video)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied stating that its acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu said that “Coronavirus is caused by corruption” during his speech at the passing out parade of 281 cadets of the EFCC Detective Inspector Course-5, at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna on Tuesday, February 18.

According to a statement shared on its official Twitter handle, the anti-graft agency alleged that the report is false and misleading. The agency claimed that Magu said:

Tackling corruption is a clarion call, given that corruption is a huge burden to the nation. It is worse than Cancer, Ebola Virus, Coronavirus and all other deadly diseases put together.

A video evidence, however, contradicts this claim, proving that Magu did say, “he strongly believes coronavirus is caused by corruption.”

In a video that has since gone viral, the EFCC boss was heard saying:

Corruption is the biggest strategy to human kind. Your excellency, corruption is worse than all the diseases now running about. And I strongly believe, Your Excellency, that even the coronavirus is caused by corruption.
