EFCC clarifies position on court order regarding Yahaya Bello

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) maintains that it complied with court orders regarding the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

In a press release signed by Wilson Uwujaren, the Acting Director of Public Affairs at EFCC, it was reaffirmed that Bello’s attempt to seek protection under a fundamental rights enforcement action, granted by Justice Isa Abdulallahi of the Kogi State High Court, did not invalidate a prior order from the Federal High Court for Bello’s arrest in preparation for his trial.

Uwujaren emphasized that the Kogi State High Court order only aimed to protect Bello’s personal liberty and movement rights, without impeding the Federal High Court’s authority to issue relevant orders in the legal dispute.

Regarding the conflict between the two court orders, Uwujaren explained, “The Federal High Court’s arrest order for Mr. Yahaya Bello, tied to his trial, does not contradict the Kogi State High Court order. The criminal charges at the Federal High Court differ significantly from the fundamental rights enforcement action under appeal.”
