EFCC Chairman Reveals Plan to Utilize Technology in Combating Financial Crimes

In an announcement made on Wednesday, Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stated that the commission is committed to leveraging various technology-driven tools and platforms to combat economic and financial crimes as well as instances of corruption.

Olukoyede emphasized the need for the EFCC to enhance its operational strategies in response to the evolving tactics employed by criminal elements.

A press release by the spokesperson of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, highlighted Olukoyede’s remarks during the inauguration of an electronic learning management studio at the commission’s Academy in Abuja.

In his address, Olukoyede pointed out, “Our mandate is now technology-driven. Previously, one would physically go to the bank, fill out vouchers, complete all necessary paperwork, receive a card, secure it, and take it home.

“However, in the current landscape, money can be transferred across the globe with a simple click. Therefore, as illicit financial movements become more sophisticated, our efforts to combat them must also advance, which is the core objective of this initiative.”

Providing insights into the e-learning studio at the Academy, the Commandant of the EFCC Academy, Chinwe Ndubeze, explained that aside from its primary role in capacity-building for the EFCC personnel and other law enforcement agencies, the Academy serves as the main training institution for NACIWA.

“The EFCC Academy serves as the principal training facility for NACIWA. Your participation in this auspicious occasion where we launch our E-Learning System signifies a joint commitment to progress, ensuring that both the EFCC and NACIWA keep pace with digital advancements,” she remarked.
