The EFCC’s Lagos Zonal office has apprehended five individuals, including Instagram comedian and social media influencer, Adedamola Adewale, for their alleged participation in internet-related fraudulent activities.
The suspects were captured in various locations in Lagos during a raid carried out by EFCC operatives.
Adewale, 20, and her associate, Lamina Hamzat Ajibola, were detained in the Agungi area of Lekki, Lagos State. Meanwhile, Israel Onyebuchi, Emmanuel Olayode, and Valentine Nwokorie were picked up in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
According to the commission, the arrest of Adewale and Ajibola was based on intelligence linking them to online fraudulent activities with two fugitive brothers, Lasisi Wasiu Adeleke and Lasisi Riliwan Adeniyi. They were apprehended at a four-bedroom duplex owned by the two fugitives.
Intelligence also connected them with extravagant lifestyles.
During questioning, Adewale, also known as “Adeherself,” reportedly confessed to playing a role in cybercrimes.
The items recovered from the suspects include two 2009 model Toyota Camry cars and a sum of N9,000,000.00 (Nine Million Naira only) found in Adewale’s account.
The other suspects, Onyebuchi, Olayode, and Nwokorie, were arrested for their involvement in a romance scam. They were apprehended during another raid, following separate intelligence.
An investigation revealed that Nwokorie was impersonating a female American citizen and sending photos as a porn star to defraud his victim, while Onyebuchi was engaging in a love scam as well as forging foreign cheques.
The items recovered from the suspects include laptops and mobile phones. All the suspects will soon be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
