EFCC arraigns MD, firm for alleged N21m fraud

The Managing Director of Faris Construction Company Limited, Salisu Suleiman, and his company have been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on one count of misappropriating N21 million. The arraignment took place before Justice Hadiza Suleiman of the Kano State High Court sitting in Kano on Friday.

The charge against Salisu Suleiman reads that he dishonestly misappropriated the sum of N21,000,000, which was payment for the supply of 125,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil to his construction site in Nguru Local Government, Yobe State by SID Oil and Gas Limited. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution counsel, Aisha Habib, requested a trial date, while the defence counsel, Mardiyya Dawaki, applied for his bail.

The prosecution opposed the bail application, citing the defendant’s previous breach of an administrative bail granted by the EFCC. As a result, Justice Suleiman remanded the defendant in EFCC’s custody and adjourned for hearing on the bail application.
