Edwin Clark: Buhari Forced Abdullahi Adamu on APC Despite Corruption Charges

Expressing his dismay at the impunity enjoyed by alleged corrupt politicians in Nigeria, Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), criticized the actions of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Clark accused Buhari of appointing Abdullahi Adamu, a former Governor of Nasarawa State who faced corruption charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after his tenure, as the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He pointed out the lack of updates on the cases of 15 former governors and ministers who were prosecuted during Nuhu Ribadu’s tenure as EFCC chairman.

During an interview on Arise TV, Clark recalled, “In 2007, over 15 ex-governors and ministers were taken to court under Ribadu’s leadership at EFCC. Some faced charges in Lagos, Abuja, and other places. However, many of these cases were left unresolved.”

He highlighted the case of Abdullahi Adamu, who faced allegations of embezzling N15 billion from Nasarawa State along with other commissioners, post his tenure as governor. Despite facing charges and subsequently winning a Senate seat, Adamu was later appointed as the APC National Chairman by Buhari.

Clark criticized this move, stating, “There are numerous similar cases within the APC where individuals, once charged with corruption, have seemingly been absolved of their wrongdoing and actively speak out against corruption.”
