Edo Government vows to eradicate cultists and criminals following attack on soldiers

The commitment has been made by Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to work closely with law enforcement agencies to eliminate criminal elements within the state.

During a courtesy visit to the Government House in Benin City, the governor reiterated this pledge while hosting Major General Obinna Onubogu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army.

He underscored that the state government will not tolerate a recurrence of the recent incident in the Okomu area, where soldiers came under fire from Okaigheles and militant groups. The governor assured that the government is collaborating with security forces to apprehend all those responsible for the attack.

“This morning, I had the honor of meeting with Major General Obinna Onubogu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, who is conducting an inspection within his command area,” the governor remarked.

Emphasizing the invaluable assistance provided by the military in securing Edo State, he acknowledged the Brigade Commander’s active participation in the State Security Council and the overall support offered to other security agencies.

Referring to the recent incident in Okomu, where militants and local youths fired at soldiers without causing casualties, he affirmed, “We will pursue all individuals involved in the attack.”

Expressing dissatisfaction with the proliferation of arms among cultists and Okaigheles in Edo State, the governor reiterated the government’s stance. He stated, “With the military’s support, we are determined to dismantle criminal groups that threaten public safety in Edo State by stockpiling arms.”
