Ecobank Launches “StaySafeNigeria” Media Campaign to Fight COVID-19

Ecobank Nigeria has initiated a media campaign, “StaySafeNigeria,” as part of its corporate efforts to support measures aimed at controlling the increasing spread of Coronavirus in Nigeria. The integrated media campaign serves as a call to action, raising awareness and educating the public about safety measures against the COVID-19.

Launching the campaign in Lagos, Patrick Akinwuntan, Managing Director of Ecobank Nigeria, emphasized that the “StaySafeNigeria” campaign is intended to mobilize the entire population to adopt safe conduct and healthy habits to help contain the spread of the virus in Nigeria. He stressed the importance of prevention over cure, especially in the case of COVID-19, with a population of about 200 million. Akinwuntan highlighted the urgent need to stop or minimize the spread of the virus to avoid overwhelming the country’s healthcare infrastructure and personnel with a full-blown pandemic.

He explained that the campaign messages will be broadcasted in Pidgin, Ibo, Hausa, Yoruba, and English on radio, electronic, and social media to effectively reach the grassroots while ensuring a contactless deployment in line with the “StaySafeNigeria” ethos.

Akinwuntan stated, “We have a responsibility as a caring and accountable corporate organization to rise to the challenge of this generation and make every effort to prevent the spread of the virus and save lives. Our media campaign will engage people with simple language, conveying important tips to stay safe. The campaign will be sustained to promote good hygiene practices even after the COVID-19 crisis is overcome.”

He also mentioned that the bank had implemented various measures to protect its staff, customers, and other stakeholders, such as evoking business continuity plans, suspending non-essential travels, canceling physical meetings, and resorting to virtual/digital meetings. Additionally, the bank encouraged strong hygiene habits, including frequent handwashing, provision of hand sanitizers, temperature checks, and mandatory self-isolation/quarantine for exposed employees.

Prior to the campaign, Ecobank had advised its customers to utilize digital solutions for their banking needs, promoting contactless payments, fund transfers, and other transactions through platforms such as *326#, Ecobank Mobile App, Ecobank Online, EcobankPay, Ecobank OmniPlus, OmniLite, and the Rapidtransfer App.

The “StaySafeNigeria” campaign aligns with the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its commitment to contributing to the well-being of the communities in which it operates.

Ecobank urges everyone to #StaySafeNigeria #StaySafeNaija #StaySafe.
