Ebonyi State’s 4th and 5th COVID-19 Cases

Announcing a recent development, Governor David Umahi revealed that Ebonyi state has recorded its 4th and 5th cases of COVID-19.

During a call to the Situation Room, a program about coronavirus on the state’s broadcast stations, the Governor disclosed that both patients are in their twenties.

Regarding how they got infected, the governor explained that the 4th case contracted the virus upon returning from Lagos, while the fifth case got infected from the third case at the Pa Oruta Ngele Stadium Abakaliki temporary isolation area.

“The 4th case is a 22-year-old boy who resides in Ojo Lagos. He arrived in Ebonyi via Nkalagu border on 26, and further traveled to Ede Ishieke in Ebonyi local government,” the governor detailed.

He stated that the man was intercepted at Ishieke by the state’s COVID-19 task force and subsequently brought to the stadium for testing, which turned out to be positive.

Concerning the fifth case, Governor Umahi mentioned that she returned with her family from Enugu State, where she resides, and was taken to the holding area in Abakaliki for testing in accordance with the state government’s policy for anyone entering from outside the state.

“The fifth case is a 24-year-old girl, a hairdresser from Awgu in Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area. She resides at No 30 Queens close Ọkpara Avenue in Enugu,” the governor elaborated. “While at the stadium, she had contact with the third case, and this evening her test result came out positive.”

However, Mr. Umahi noted that the family members she returned with all tested negative, and they will be kept at the holding area and monitored for the next 14 days.

He added that he has directed the medical team to conduct contact tracing of all the patients’ contacts while urging residents to remain vigilant but not to panic as the state government is taking comprehensive measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

“All the confirmed cases are doing well at the isolation centre. In the next one week, I am sure that they will be cleared to go home after they must have tested negative twice,” he assured.
