In the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on the Akpoha/Abaomege section of the Afikpo-Abakaliki Highway, soldiers from the Nkwagu Military Cantonment took down an armed robber on Monday.
Additionally, they apprehended three suspects believed to have connections with the criminals who had been reportedly causing fear among motorists in the vicinity.
According to reports by PUNCH Metro, the arrested individuals were part of a group responsible for instigating chaos and instilling terror in the area.
The Afikpo-Abakaliki Highway serves as a primary route for travelers heading to Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, from Imo and Abia states.
Information gathered by our correspondent revealed that the suspects’ luck ran out on Monday morning when the soldiers intervened, resulting in the death of one individual and the arrest of three others.
A circulating video viewed by our correspondent depicted travelers and locals commending the bravery of the soldiers as they escorted the captured suspects away, with another individual seen lying wounded.
DSP Joshua Ukandu, the police spokesperson in the state, mentioned that the report on the incident had not yet reached his office, stating that he was awaiting details from the Divisional Police Officer in the Abaomege Division.
He stated, “I have not received any conclusive information yet, the DPO for Abaomege confirmed being informed about it, but lacks specifics. Therefore, I do not have any information to provide at this time.”
