Dubai takes new measures to combat the spread of Coronavirus by suspending marriage and divorce filings

Marriage contracts and divorce certificates attestations are among all personal legal services suspended by the family court in Dubai in an effort to control the spread of Coronavirus.

As part of the latest measures to prevent social gatherings during such occasions, the justice department announced the suspension on Wednesday, April 8.

Justice Khaled al-Hawsni of the family court emphasized on the department’s website that couples who have completed marriage formalities should not organize wedding parties, even among their immediate circles.

The UAE has seen 2,076 cases of Coronavirus since the outbreak, with at least 11 reported deaths due to the disease.

Arab News reported that the Personal Status Court in Dubai decided on Tuesday, April 7, to suspend all legal services related to family matters based on Islamic jurisprudence, referencing the principle that “repelling an evil is preferable to securing a benefit”.
