Do Not Select Former Governors As Ministers, Forum Advises Tinubu

The Youth Forum of the South West (SWYF) has encouraged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to abstain from appointing any of the previous Governors as Ministers in his forthcoming cabinet.

In a press statement, Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Funsho Ajimuda, specified that a majority of the past Governors had squandered substantial domestic and foreign debts in their respective states.

He stated: “There have been speculations that many former governors in the country are seeking appointments as ministers. It is an act of greed, shamelessness, and selfishness for an individual who has served as an executive governor for eight years to now seek a ministerial position while their political protégé holds the gubernatorial office.”

“The Forum strongly emphasizes that these advances from the former governors should be disregarded. It is evident that these governors devastated government affairs without any concrete plan, concept, or blueprint. They are simply interested in transitioning from being the chief executive officer of the state to a minister or senator. During their time as governors, they had the opportunity to serve the people, but instead, they served themselves and their associates, leaving behind a track record tainted with broken promises, corruption, and inefficiency,” he added.

The statement also criticized the former governors for the deterioration of Nigeria’s educational system and the accumulation of salary arrears for teachers. The SWYF urged President Tinubu to appoint competent ministers who are technocrats and have a commitment to leaving a positive legacy, skilled individuals capable of rescuing the nation from its current economic crisis.

Comrade Funsho Ajimuda concluded by expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to defend the interests of over 220 million Nigerians and enhance the lives of ordinary citizens. They believe that his experience in the public sector and excellent track record in human resources management will be evident in his selection of ministerial nominees.
