Document Gov Sule suspends IMAP governing council, sends Rector on compulsory leave

Following the report submitted by the visitation panel, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has taken action by suspending the governing body of the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, IMAP, Lafia, and placing the Rector, Dr Justina Anjide-Kotso, on compulsory leave with immediate effect.

The directive was issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Ubandoma-Aliyu, on Friday. It cited the need for an unhindered investigation into the report of the visitation panel by the white paper committee.

The visitation panel, chaired by Engineer Ali Rabiu, submitted its report to Governor Sule on February 2nd, prompting this action.

According to Ubandoma, the Governor’s decision aims to ensure a thorough investigation without any interference from the current leadership.

Despite the previous commendation of Dr Justina Anjide-Kotso’s efforts by Governor Sule in repositioning IMAP, this move came as a surprise.

The Governor had previously praised her for transforming the institution by achieving technical accreditation for four courses and repositioning it as a beacon of academic excellence.

Dr Anjide-Kotso’s efforts in sanitizing and blocking leakages in the system, particularly with the introduction of a registration portal, were acknowledged and lauded by the Students Union Government (SUG).

In a statement, the SUG President, Ayaka Peter Ekom, expressed optimism over the Institution’s future despite the recent developments and affirmed the student body’s continued support for initiatives benefitting IMAP.
