Document Breaking: FG Approves Salary Increase Federal Institution Workers, Others

Federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has given approval for the implementation of a 35% and 25% salary increase for staff in all federal tertiary institutions.

Commencing from January 1, 2023, the government has also committed to clearing arrears owed to the workers.

The Presidential Committee on Salaries factored in the agreements between the Federal Ministry of Education and unions representing tertiary institution staff during its 13th meeting to arrive at this decision.

Based on a memo from the office of the Auditor General of the Federation, dated 21st September 2023 and signed by Ajanaku F.O on behalf of the Director, Human Resource Management, the government sanctioned a review of salary structures including Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Structure (CONTISS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), and Consolidated University Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONUASS).

Furthermore, in another memo dated 14th September 2023, Ekpo U. Nta, the Chairman/CEO of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, addressed the Honourable Minister of Education confirming the approval of the salary increase.

This salary adjustment applies to the four salary structures within Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.
