Expressing deep shock and devastation, American pop sensation Taylor Swift has spoken out about the recent stabbing attack that took place during a dance and yoga session in the United Kingdom inspired by her music.
Tragically, Merseyside Police confirmed the death of a 9-year-old girl, who succumbed to her injuries a day after the assault. Additionally, two other young girls, aged 6 and 7 respectively, lost their lives during the harrowing incident in Southport, a quaint coastal town in the northwest of England, as reported by BBC News.
At present, five children and two adults remain in critical condition receiving medical care at the hospital.
In an official statement released on Monday, authorities revealed that a 17-year-old male suspect had been apprehended on charges of attempted murder and murder. Following the attack, a knife was confiscated by law enforcement officials.
Taking to her Instagram account to address the distressing event, Swift admitted that the shock of the tragedy had left her reeling.
She penned, “The sheer horror of the Southport attack from yesterday keeps flooding my mind, leaving me completely stunned.
“The loss of innocent lives and the unfathomable trauma inflicted on those present, their families, and the heroic first responders.
“These were just young children attending a dance class. I’m truly at a loss on how to express my heartfelt condolences to the grieving families.”
