Dismissal of 5 LASTMA Officials Due to Corruption

Over the weekend, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) issued termination letters to five officials and reprimand letters to two others at Oshodi, Lagos, following their involvement in corrupt activities.

These actions were taken based on recommendations from the Personnel Management Board through the Lagos State Civil Service Commission.

In a statement by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, it was confirmed that the Commission ratified all recommendations made by the Board during its meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2023.

Taofiq mentioned, “Out of the seven officials indicted for corruption, five received termination letters, while the remaining two received reprimand letters for unauthorized absence from duty.”

Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Bakara Oki Olalekan, emphasized that the disciplinary measures were in accordance with the existing rules guided by the Lagos State Civil Service Regulations.

Oki stressed the importance of public feedback, positive or negative, and the provision of evidence when reporting any misconduct, stating that the agency’s improvement relies on such information.

He urged road users to comply with traffic laws to avoid penalties, assuring the public that complaints would be promptly and fairly addressed.

Furthermore, 14 other indicted LASTMA officials are currently undergoing administrative review, Taofiq confirmed.

He added, “This is essential for the advancement of a Greater Lagos and the realization of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s goals in the First Pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation).”

Finally, Oki disclosed the contact numbers for lodging complaints and stressed that all complaints would be impartially investigated with prompt attention.
