Delta Police Take Down Suspected Kidnapper, Save Victims, Seize Guns

In Delta State’s Abraka Division, located in Ethiope-East Local Government Area, the police, led by SP Fabian Ayameh, in conjunction with the Abraka vigilante and hunters group, successfully eliminated a suspected kidnapper in the Orogun community of Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The rest of the criminal gang managed to flee from the scene of the incident.

Furthermore, law enforcement rescued two individuals who had been kidnapped (their identities are being withheld) and returned them to their families.

Reports suggest that during an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and his criminal associates, the suspect sustained severe gunshot wounds. He eventually passed away in a hospital where he was taken for medical attention, as reported by NewsNow.

Additionally, the police discovered an AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition in possession of the suspect at the crime scene.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, validated the information in an official statement.

He stated, “On 26/4/2024, around 09:00 hours, the command was alerted with intelligence indicating that suspected kidnappers were hiding in Okuno, Orogun. They were utilizing the location to conceal kidnapped victims. The Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, directed the DPO Abraka Division SP Fabian Ayameh to lead a team of police officers to the hideout.”

SP Edafe elaborated that the DPO quickly organized a team and launched an assault on the bush where the suspected kidnappers were located, resulting in a fierce gun battle. One of the suspects sustained significant gunshot wounds while the others managed to evade capture.

He added, “Efforts to track down the other fleeing suspects are currently underway.”
