Delta hands over 215 hectares of land for the establishment of a new university

In a significant move, the Delta State Government has officially transferred 215 hectares of land to the Federal Government for the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area.

During the official handover ceremony of the land documents to the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, in Asaba, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori conveyed that the allocated land would serve as both the permanent and temporary sites for the university.

Representing the governor, his deputy, Monday Onyeme, presented the Certificate of Occupancy for the land to the minister, represented by the Director of Education, Mrs. Rakiya Gambo, expressing gratitude to the Federal Government, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, for selecting Delta as the hosting location for the Federal University.

Notably, the General Hospital in Kwale has also been designated as the teaching hospital for the university, marking a significant step towards realizing a long-standing aspiration of the local community.

Governor Oborevwori affirmed the state government’s commitment to collaborating with the university to ensure a successful commencement of academic activities, emphasizing full support from Delta towards the university’s development.

He urged the Federal Ministry of Education to maintain rigorous oversight on the university’s progress to facilitate rapid advancement.

On behalf of the people of Delta State, Governor Oborevwori formally handed over the land documents, signifying the state’s wholehearted support for the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale.

Earlier, Mrs. Sambo, along with her team, conducted an inspection of the proposed university sites including the temporary and permanent locations, as well as the general hospital, expressing satisfaction with the facilities.

She praised the Delta State Government for its steadfast backing and for providing the necessary documentation for the temporary and permanent sites.

The ceremony was attended by government officials including Commissioner for Lands and Survey Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, Commissioner for Urban Renewal Mike Anoka, Commissioner for Higher Education Prof. Johnbull Nyerovwo Tonukari, and Commissioner for Primary Education Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu.
