Delta command refutes alleged police shooting in viral video, calling it false news

Claims that officers from Dragon 15 shot a young man in the Morsogar area of Delta State have been denied by the Delta State Police Command. This denial follows the circulation of a video on social media alleging that a police officer shot a young man in the state for refusing to give them money.

SP Edafe Bright, the command’s spokesperson, dismissed the video as fake news in a statement on X.com on Thursday. He emphasized that any wrongdoing by the policemen would have led to their arrest, stating, “We don’t shield bad eggs.”

“Say no to fake news! In response to the fake video that went viral yesterday, policemen attached to Dragon 15 shot a boy in Morsogar on Tuesday,” Edafe wrote.

He further explained, “After trying my best to explain that he was not shot, the CP directed that the team locate the boy to confirm if he was shot or not.”

The young man involved in the incident also spoke in the video, stating, “The policeman just pushed me and I fainted. So I was taken to the hospital afterwards. The police did not shoot me.”

Edafe encouraged the public to trust and cooperate with the police, allowing them to carry out their duties effectively. He added, “Nigerians should learn to verify facts. It’s not everything you see on social media that you should believe. Verify facts, analyze videos, and conduct research before drawing conclusions.”
