Debate Over Jollof: African Presidents from Ghana and Botswana Meet at ‘The Delborough Lagos’

Over the weekend, two African leaders enjoyed lunch at the prestigious ‘The Delborough Lagos’. Ghana’s former President, John Dramani Mahama, was engaged in a lively debate about jollof rice with Nigeria’s former Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Hon. Osita Chidoka.

The presence of former Presidents Mahama and his Botswana counterpart, Ian Khama, at the hotel during their visit to Nigeria, added excitement to the occasion.

In a viral video circulating online, Hon. Chidoka attempted to assist Mahama by stating, “He is saying that, due to his Nigerian heritage as a former President of Ghana and potentially the future President again, he will resolve the debate between Nigerian and Ghanaian jollof rice once and for all.”

Responding to this, Khama remarked, “We will organize a taste test between the best Nigerian and Ghanaian jollof rice makers, with President Tinubu and myself at The Delborough. Ultimately, we will reach an agreement.”

Mahama, who served as the President of Ghana from 2012 to 2017, is currently the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress, NDC, in the upcoming December elections.

In his remarks, Khama praised the young Nigerian, Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu, the owner of the hotel, for his commendable work in Nigeria and across Africa.

“I am delighted to be at ‘The Delborough’ and I appreciate Dr. Stanley for his remarkable contribution in Nigeria,” Khama added.

Notable African leaders and industry moguls present at the lunch included Chief Mike Ozekhome, a Board Member of ‘The Delborough Lagos’; Chief Alex Onyema, the owner of Air Peace airline; Senator Daisy Danjuma; Karl Olutokun Toriola, the CEO of MTN Nigeria, alongside other distinguished guests.

The event was further enhanced by a live performance from the talented Nigerian gospel singer, Moses Bliss, which heightened the joyous atmosphere among the guests.
