Deadly Bomb Blast Kills 30 People on Crowded Bridge in Borno


Reports indicate that at least 30 individuals lost their lives in Gamboru, Borno state on Monday, January 6th due to the detonation of an improvised explosive device on a bridge.

 

According to Reuters, the bomb went off around 5 p.m. on the busy bridge in the market town of Gamboru, which connects to neighboring Cameroon. Witnesses in the market town revealed that over 35 people were injured and immediately taken to the local hospital following the assault.

 

“It is an unfortunate day for us to witness this frustrating and devastating incident in our community. I just heard a loud sound of explosions, before I realized I saw many of our friends and colleagues were killed,” an eyewitness told Reuters

 

No group, including Boko Haram or the regional offshoot of Islamic State, known as ISWAP, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
