Daughter’s former boyfriend shot and killed by father during attempted break-in (video)

A video clip captures the moment a father fatally shot his daughter’s ex-boyfriend as the man attempted to forcibly enter the family home.

James Rayl, 22, tried to break into his ex-girlfriend Allyson Duckro’s residence at 2907 N. Kuther Road.

The Ring camera footage, recorded on July 31 at 11 a.m., shows Rayl repeatedly ringing the doorbell and then attempting to force his way through the front door.

After opening the screen door and trying the handle, Rayl forcibly pushed against the door.

The voice heard in the recording is that of Mitchell Duckro, Allyson’s father, issuing a warning to Rayl to stop.

Despite the warning that he was armed, Rayl persisted in his attempts to break in.

He managed to forcefully open the door a few inches after breaking the deadbolt lock, at which point the father fired three shots, striking Rayl in the left shoulder, right shoulder, and back.

Rayl stumbled back and collapsed in front of the garage door.

A neighbor, Jeffrey Hereford, appears in the video after the shooting, declaring that he is not armed.

A recorded 911 call features reassurances from Allyson Duckro to her father.

Allyson had ended her relationship with Rayl a year and a half prior to the incident, but had contacted him the night before the fatal encounter.

Police arrived at the scene approximately eight minutes later, but Rayl had already succumbed to his injuries.

Hereford expressed disagreement with the grand jury’s decision not to indict Mitchell Duckro, questioning the use of lethal force.

However, the grand jury voted not to press charges based on Ohio’s “Stand Your Ground” and “Castle Doctrine” laws, which permit homeowners to use lethal force when threatened.

Shelby County Sheriff Jim Frye stated that no new information was uncovered during the investigation, including tips provided by Rayl’s family.

Rayl’s family contested the decision, expressing that he did not intend any harm and should not have been fatally shot.
